Every Time We Step Onto Our Mats....

Every time we step onto our yoga mats, we step into possibility. The possibility that this practice is more than a succession of postures, more than a way of coordinating breath with movement, but ultimately the opportunity to change the way we look at ourselves, one another and our world. Looking beyond the surface of the practice to the subtleties is one powerful way to embody this possibility. For example, when we bring our hands together after savasana into anjali mudra (prayer) at the end of class, could we instead look at this as a way of bringing together our opposites- the worldly and spiritual sides of you. Ultimately, yoga seeks to join all opposites and dissolve our illusions of being separate, separate from ourselves and separate from one another. Anytime we weave the inhale into the exhale, look for similarities between ourselves and another, or watch as day slowly turns to night, with no definitive break in between, we are experiencing yoga. The presence of yoga, when we look at it like this, is all around us. Next time you step onto your mat, look beyond the surface to the subtleties. Your practice is full of magic just waiting for your senses to grow stronger.
