Yoga for Gardeners

As seasons begin to shift, the human need to nourish, plant, and create starts to stir in our bellies. While there is still a bit of time before we break ground, February is a good month to begin sowing our seeds of intention for a bountiful harvest in the fall. This series if for those interested in learning more about gardening and connecting with a community of gardeners. We will incorporates gentle yoga, open to all levels, including beginners. The yoga portion of the program will focus on postures that specifically address all of the major muscles and joints used in gardening.

Join Katie for a unique, 4-week series that will help prepare you, body and soul, for the growing season ahead. Each class will consist of 45 minutes of yoga poses, 30 minutes of organic gardening tips and techniques.

Session 1: Sowing Seeds
This session will guide you through neck, back, and full body poses and stretches to keep you in shape for seed catalogue searching and sowing. Each participant will receive a packet of organic seeds and tips for starting seeds indoors to jump-start the gardening season.

Session 2: Cultivating Patience
We will focus on mindfulness and Hatha yoga postures to prepare ourselves for the delayed gratification of seed germination. We also will explore creative intention setting as gardeners and as yoga practitioners. Katie will discuss what and when to plant in your organic vegetable garden.

Session 3: Breaking Ground
We will be taking things up a notch with active yoga poses to prepare you for the hard work to come. We will be discussing organic gardening soil amendments such as compost, leaf mold, and manure tea.

Session 4: Rejuvenate
Our last session will celebrate our hard work through a series of restful and restorative postures. Katie will discuss signs of spring and show you how to create new life from old by demonstrating how to take plant cuttings.

Calling all Reiki I practitioners! Are you ready to take your Reiki practice to the next level? Join us for a 4 week Traditional Usui Reiki Level II Intensive Training!

In this Reiki II workshop, we will cover the following:

-A review of self healing, healing others, and Reiki I basics

-Reiki Symbols, what they are, and how to use them

-Distance healing—healing across time and space

-Intuitive/psychic development with Reiki, as well as working with Reiki guides

-Advanced Reiki/energy healing techniques and information for individuals considering a Reiki healing career.

And of course, you will receive your Reiki II attunement!

All class participants are required to have Reiki level I Training & attunement to participate.

Additional details:

Wildwood Yoga and Joy of Yoga will be conducting a 200HR Registered Yoga Teacher Training and Immersion for anyone wanting to become a certified yoga teacher or those that would like to immerse themselves into their physical practice and understanding of yoga's history, philosophy and practical application in today's world.

What makes this Yoga Teacher Training distinctive is its ability to draw from a wide spectrum of yoga practices, philosophies and techniques. This training promises to deliver intellectually stimulating content, physically empowering practices, and spiritual connection through the cultivation of a daily sadhana practice. Physical strength and flexibility are not requirements to be a yoga teacher. The desire to better yourself and those around you are the requirements for this training.

This training is design to connect you to your inner teacher and guide. This is not a set of prescribed sequences that must be delivered with prescribed speech. It is a map to lead you to that inner wisdom and voice of the teacher within. Intuition, creativity, connection and thoughtful application are the cornerstones of the knowledge and teaching methods you will gain. Teachers will be asked to be accountable and to know why they are designing their classes with a specific sequence of poses, knowing that there is never just one way or one response, but that there is always an authentic and intuitive approach.

Jill Dunlap and Joy Page co-created the hatha based curriculum that will be the basis for this training. The curriculum emphasizes alignment, anatomy, philosophy and meditation.
Each weekend will incorporate
* 4 hours anatomy and physiology training hours by a physical therapist
* 6 hours of alignment based, in depth asana (yoga postures) training
* 3 hours of Teaching Methodology
* 5 hours of Yoga Philosophy
Processing through discussion as a group is part of every weekend.

Overall, each student will spend at least 10 hours teaching yoga during the training. Outside of the training, each student should expect to spend 2-3 hours per week on homework and attending classes.

Throughout the entire training program, each student has unlimited monthly memberships at both Joy of Yoga and Wildwood Yoga.

Offered with our 2018 Yoga Teacher Training Program is OPTIONAL training to become a Reiki Master with Sarah Buehner. The classes required to become a Reiki Master will be held in addition to and outside of the Teacher Training weekends. These sessions in their entirety will be an additional 20 hours. 

Familiarizing ourselves with the subtler components of energy anatomy enhances our ability to guide our students through the practice of yoga. Reiki is, at it's origin, a practice that began and developed in India. For this reason, it pairs nicely with and overlaps in many ways the practice of Yoga. Cost for Joy of Yoga teacher trainees for all 3 levels of Reiki attunements (Level 1 through Reiki Master) is $885.

Yoga For Bigger Bodies- An Intro

This 4 week series will be held on Sundays 1-3pm Feb. 25-March 15. This series is an introduction to yoga for bigger bodies. Regardless of your size, shape or flexibility, yoga will meet you exactly where you are on your journey to balance and well-being. Yoga helps to create a compassionate mind and heart so that you can accept and embrace the beautiful and capable body you live in. Learn to move freely with confidence by letting go of the question “How should my body look in this pose?”, and start connecting to your inner awareness so you can ask yourself “How does my body feel in this pose?".

In this series, Bryna and Alison will teach you how to modify basic yoga postures to support your unique body by using the available props provided in any yoga studio. They will teach multiple variations for each posture, showing you how to make yoga safe and comfortable for your specific body type. You will learn how to connect to your body without judgement in a supportive and compassionate community of like bodied people.

We will integrate our movements with breathing exercises to empower you to move with confidence and purpose. Learn to cultivate patience for yourself while strengthening and stretching at your pace. We will take the time to personally assist each student for maximum comfort and encourage each practitioner to find their own expression in each yoga pose. This is an interactive workshop where we will have conversations about body positivity and self love. You will leave this class with a deeper appreciation of your body and all it can do, basic knowledge of yoga terms, postures, breath work, body awareness, meditation and the ability to make yoga work for you in any yoga class. Attending a Reiki Share is a fantastic way to meet other like-minded people who are interested in energetic healing. The basis of a share is so everyone attending can both give and receive Reiki healing in a supportive and loving environment. Reiki Shares provide energetic healing to people with little to no experience with Reiki as well as established Reiki Masters.

Join Joy for this information session where we'll dive into this deep and ancient pool of wisdom. Ayurveda is the sister science to Yoga and is translated as the 'Science of Life'. It has been used over the last 5000 years in India to create balance and health in body, mind and spirit. We will learn our Ayurvedic Prakriti or Dosha (vata, pitta or kapha?) and learn Ayurvedic practices and foods for balancing your dosha.

According to Ayurveda, the goal is not just a high functioning physical body, but a mind and spirit to match. As we accumulate stress in our modern lives, we get tired and our digestion slows down, we battle mood, our energy wanes, aging and a multitude of physical ailments keep us from realizing our spiritual nature. The body becomes dense, heavy and non-responsive tethering us to a dull state of being and thinking. We will learn ways to lighten the load, feel energized and whole.

Much of the information widely accepted in Ayurveda for thousands of years has only very recently been proven by modern science! The ancient seers and rishis were so attuned to their physical bodies it is truly astounding to contemplate how they could have been so acutely aware of the most subtle aspects of being. Their knowledge will amaze you!

The goal of Ayurveda is to remove the density of the physical body and restore optimal physical health so that we can gain mental and spiritual clarity. Joy and equanimity is our birthright! Feeling good is something each of us has access to each and every day.

Empowered Empath Support Circle

The Empowered Empaths Circle is a healing space for people who identify as empaths or otherwise sensitive to the energy of others & the world around them.

Not sure if you fit this description, but feeling a little overwhelmed about world events, others' problems, or the future? Then this group is definitely for you!

Many people who are sensitive to energy can become easily overwhelmed without energy-managing techniques. As a result, many unbalanced energy-sensitive individuals struggle socially, physically, emotionally, or mentally. Mismanaged energy can lead to physical illness, relationship problems, or mental health issues.

Many empaths and others sensitive to energy also feel isolated and alone, which is one of the main reasons the Empowered Empaths Circle was created!

In addition to learning concepts and techniques for managing energy, the empowered empaths circle is also a space for group members to give and receive support to one another about topics and questions related to being sensitive to energy.

Although it can feel like a burden, it is a gift to be sensitive to energy! We are here to help bring awareness to the world around us. In this circle, you can learn ways to clear, rebalance, and enjoy your ability to be sensitive to energy.

The Empowered Empath Support Group is facilitated by Sarah Buehner, who, in addition to identifying as an Empath, Highly Sensitive Person, and Indigo, is also a practicing energy healer, psychic/medium, and mental health counselor. Sarah has experience balancing her own energy, as well as guiding others to balance themselves through her work as a healer and counselor.

Level 1 Reiki training will begin at Joy Of Yoga in March! Traditional Usui Reiki 1 classes start March 23 and will be held on Fridays from 12:30 - 2:30 PM.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a powerful healing technique, that can help to bring about profound physical, emotional, and spiritual changes in a person’s life. Reiki I practitioners learn the basics of Reiki Healing, as well as how to perform self-healing and heal friends/family members and animals. You will learn basics of clearing energy in rooms, food, crystals and other objects. Each Reiki Attunement increases the person’s energy vibration, allowing for more profound healing abilities.

 

Who can learn Reiki?

-Anyone who wants to practice radical self-care

-Anyone who experiences a lot of stress, anxiety, chronic pain, physical ailments/illness, spiritual blocks, or is around intense/negative energy

-Those who want to help heal animals

 

What makes this course different than other Reiki Trainings?

*We allow more time to learn the information, practice, and integrate the knowledge and adjust to the new vibration of energy. Many Reiki First Degree courses are taught all at once in one weekend, individually, or in 3 1-hour sessions, leaving minimal time to process the new information, ask questions, or receive guidance and additional feedback. This course is spread out over 8 weeks, and equals a total of 12 hours of training, so that at the end of the training all Reiki I practitioners feel confident in their ability to use Reiki energy to heal themselves and others.

 

*A strong emphasis is placed on hands-on practice. Students receive hours of experience in class and homework is given to practice between sessions.

 

*You will receive support in integrating this new vibration of energy. Receiving an attunement can bring up mild physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual shifts, that can at times feel uncomfortable or overwhelming. This is happening because your vibration is increasing, and you are releasing old habits and patterns that no longer resonate with your new vibration. The attunement is given during the 2nd or 3rd class, so that students have support built into the class as they adjust to the new energy.

 

*Additional support from an experienced healer/private practice provider. Sarah integrates additional skills and knowledge from her years as a psychotherapist, running a private practice, and from her experience as a practicing psychic/medium and Reiki Practitioner/Master.

 

*Additional Resources for Spiritual Development & Reiki Healing. Sarah emphasizes spiritual growth and Reiki healing as a life-long pursuit, and provides many additional handouts, websites, organizations, and other resources for Reiki 1 students to access along the way. Sarah also provides individual feedback and guidance throughout the training program.

 

Upon completing this training, you will have been trained in Traditional Usui Reiki First Degree (Reiki I), and receive your Reiki I attunement and certificate as a Traditional Usui First Degree Practitioner. Attendance to each session is required to receive Reiki I certificate.

 

After completion of this course, you will have a strong foundation in Reiki healing. If you would like to pursue a career in Reiki, or you would like to further your self-healing and personal growth with Reiki, you can continue onto Reiki II, to be held in February and throughout the year!

 

This event will be hosted by Sarah Buehner, who, in addition to being a Traditional Usui Reiki Master/Teacher is also a practicing psychotherapist and psychic/medium. Sarah pursued her career in Reiki after seeing the profound effects Reiki Healings had in her own life, as well as in the lives of her counseling clients. After learning Reiki, Sarah also experienced how receiving and learning Reiki can lead to profound spiritual growth and strengthen a person’s natural intuition and psychic abilities. Sarah believes that Reiki has a significant role in healing our society in the years to come, and that Reiki will play a significant role in empowering individuals for self-healing, healing others, and contributing to global healing and peace.

Sisterhood Circle with Becca

Sisterhood is like rocket fuel for creating the kind of life we want. Surround yourself with other women like you who also want to grow and learn and you've got the powerful recipe for support, connection and change.

Becca will lead this circle the last Thursday of every month (except Jan and Feb where it will be the last Friday). She will guide the conversations around topics such as body image, health, food, healing the body, guilt, shame and tools and strategies to start changing your mindset and self-talk.

Becca's Story:
At a young age, Becca Kunce learned the power and magic of mindfulness. She spent the summers of her formative years immersed in numerous pranayama and meditation courses through The Art of Living. It was here that mindfulness techniques became embedded in her programming. Through these experiences, she found the love and power of her breath and has been turning to it ever since.

Becca comes to teach mindfulness through a background in education. She taught secondary mathematics for five years in New York City. Through her years of teaching, she learned how to masterfully facilitate groups by creating safe and sacred spaces where individuals can take risks and experience tremendous growth. When she experienced her own life-changing transformation through the power of mindfulness, she knew she had to share what she learned outward. So, she left the classroom, followed her inner guides, and began her career as a Confidence Coach. She now works with people who want to feel more confident, better in their bodies, and more powerful. In her sessions with clients, Becca incorporates mindfulness techniques and self-love strategies to help facilitate deep personal transformations.

Becca is no stranger to yo-yo dieting and hating her body. Every day, from the ages of 7 to 27, Becca was on whatever diet or food plan she believed would help her lose weight. Each time she looked in the mirror during those 20 years, she hated what she saw. She obsessed over her weight and learned to tie her self-worth to the number on the scale, the size of her pants, and the number of chins, rolls, or stretch marks she had. Whenever she had to buy bigger clothes or gained weight, she felt disgusting, shameful, and wrong. If her body happened to get smaller, she celebrated and cheered and then went right back to her patterns of self-loathing and strived to be even smaller. None of her many accomplishments in life mattered because they all happened in her body that was so obviously “wrong” and too big.

During her years of dieting, restricting, and self-loathing, she took in an overwhelming amount of information about what was “healthy” for her body. She developed extremely skewed ideas about food and her relationship to her body. It was impossible for her to fully enjoy food because she was either grumpy about eating whatever was “healthy” or she felt guilty because she was eating something “unhealthy.” Yet, she was willing to do anything to fit the mold society has laid out for us so she kept on attempting to change the way she looked.

From a very young age, it was deeply ingrained in her that it was absolutely impossible to love her body unless she looked different. In fact, she was taught she shouldn’t love her body because...how disgusting. So she did whatever it took to lose weight in hopes of feeling confident, good in her body, and dare we say...even sexy.

After two decades of feeling shame and hatred around food and her body, she gave up trying to change her physical body and turned to her mental and emotional ones. She called upon her knowledge and experience of mindfulness to help her remove the blocks she had and shift her thinking. What she uncovered was absolutely life-changing. She was shocked to find that it, in fact, WAS possible to feel confident, sexy, and good in her body, even at her all-time heaviest weight. She learned how to let go of the conditions of love she had for herself and chose to wholly love her body exactly as it was. With this came a starkly different and healthy relationship with food as she reconnected to her body and began listening to what it really wanted. This shift freed up an immense amount of energy, emotions, and headspace. She had no idea how exhausting it all was until she let it all go.

Everything you have done, are doing, and will do in this life is in your physical body. Do you have any idea how much more joyful, fun, energizing, and amazing everything is when you get to do it all in a body you love??

Becca wants you to know a few things. You and your body are absolutely amazing. You can feel as confident and as sexy as you want in the body you are in right this moment. Your body will tell you exactly what it wants and needs, you just have to know how to listen to it.

Mindfulness is a self-empowering, simple and practical way to help you be your best self more often. Over the last decade, mindfulness has gone from being perceived as a "woo woo" practice to an increasingly mainstream tool espoused in corporations across the globe. Finally now modern neuroscience can support what mindfulness practitioners have known for thousands of years - that mindfulness meditation physically develops our brain's capacity to be more compassionate, calm, happy and focused.

Empowered Empath Support Circle

The Empowered Empaths Circle is a healing space for people who identify as empaths or otherwise sensitive to the energy of others & the world around them.

Not sure if you fit this description, but feeling a little overwhelmed about world events, others' problems, or the future? Then this group is definitely for you!

Many people who are sensitive to energy can become easily overwhelmed without energy-managing techniques. As a result, many unbalanced energy-sensitive individuals struggle socially, physically, emotionally, or mentally. Mismanaged energy can lead to physical illness, relationship problems, or mental health issues.

Many empaths and others sensitive to energy also feel isolated and alone, which is one of the main reasons the Empowered Empaths Circle was created!

In addition to learning concepts and techniques for managing energy, the empowered empaths circle is also a space for group members to give and receive support to one another about topics and questions related to being sensitive to energy.

Although it can feel like a burden, it is a gift to be sensitive to energy! We are here to help bring awareness to the world around us. In this circle, you can learn ways to clear, rebalance, and enjoy your ability to be sensitive to energy.

Many people who are sensitive to energy can become easily overwhelmed without energy-managing techniques. As a result, many unbalanced energy-sensitive individuals struggle socially, physically, emotionally, or mentally. Mismanaged energy can lead to physical illness, relationship problems, or mental health issues.

Many empaths and others sensitive to energy also feel isolated and alone, which is one of the main reasons the Empowered Empaths Circle was created!

In addition to learning concepts and techniques for managing energy, the empowered empaths circle is also a space for group members to give and receive support to one another about topics and questions related to being sensitive to energy.

Although it can feel like a burden, it is a gift to be sensitive to energy! We are here to help bring awareness to the world around us. In this circle, you can learn ways to clear, rebalance, and enjoy your ability to be sensitive to energy.

The Empowered Empath Support Group is facilitated by Sarah Buehner, who, in addition to identifying as an Empath, Highly Sensitive Person, and Indigo, is also a practicing energy healer, psychic/medium, and mental health counselor. Sisterhood Circle

Sisterhood is like rocket fuel for creating the kind of life we want. Surround yourself with other women like you who also want to grow and learn and you've got the powerful recipe for support, connection and change.

Becca will lead this circle the last Thursday of every month (except Jan and Feb where it will be the last Friday). She will guide the conversations around topics such as body image, health, food, healing the body, guilt, shame and tools and strategies to start changing your mindset and self-talk.

Becca's Story:
At a young age, Becca Kunce learned the power and magic of mindfulness. She spent the summers of her formative years immersed in numerous pranayama and meditation courses through The Art of Living. It was here that mindfulness techniques became embedded in her programming. Through these experiences, she found the love and power of her breath and has been turning to it ever since.

Becca comes to teach mindfulness through a background in education. She taught secondary mathematics for five years in New York City. Through her years of teaching, she learned how to masterfully facilitate groups by creating safe and sacred spaces where individuals can take risks and experience tremendous growth. When she experienced her own life-changing transformation through the power of mindfulness, she knew she had to share what she learned outward. So, she left the classroom, followed her inner guides, and began her career as a Confidence Coach. She now works with people who want to feel more confident, better in their bodies, and more powerful. In her sessions with clients, Becca incorporates mindfulness techniques and self-love strategies to help facilitate deep personal transformations.

Becca is no stranger to yo-yo dieting and hating her body. Every day, from the ages of 7 to 27, Becca was on whatever diet or food plan she believed would help her lose weight. Each time she looked in the mirror during those 20 years, she hated what she saw. She obsessed over her weight and learned to tie her self-worth to the number on the scale, the size of her pants, and the number of chins, rolls, or stretch marks she had. Whenever she had to buy bigger clothes or gained weight, she felt disgusting, shameful, and wrong. If her body happened to get smaller, she celebrated and cheered and then went right back to her patterns of self-loathing and strived to be even smaller. None of her many accomplishments in life mattered because they all happened in her body that was so obviously “wrong” and too big.

During her years of dieting, restricting, and self-loathing, she took in an overwhelming amount of information about what was “healthy” for her body. She developed extremely skewed ideas about food and her relationship to her body. It was impossible for her to fully enjoy food because she was either grumpy about eating whatever was “healthy” or she felt guilty because she was eating something “unhealthy.” Yet, she was willing to do anything to fit the mold society has laid out for us so she kept on attempting to change the way she looked.

From a very young age, it was deeply ingrained in her that it was absolutely impossible to love her body unless she looked different. In fact, she was taught she shouldn’t love her body because...how disgusting. So she did whatever it took to lose weight in hopes of feeling confident, good in her body, and dare we say...even sexy.

After two decades of feeling shame and hatred around food and her body, she gave up trying to change her physical body and turned to her mental and emotional ones. She called upon her knowledge and experience of mindfulness to help her remove the blocks she had and shift her thinking. What she uncovered was absolutely life-changing. She was shocked to find that it, in fact, WAS possible to feel confident, sexy, and good in her body, even at her all-time heaviest weight. She learned how to let go of the conditions of love she had for herself and chose to wholly love her body exactly as it was. With this came a starkly different and healthy relationship with food as she reconnected to her body and began listening to what it really wanted. This shift freed up an immense amount of energy, emotions, and headspace. She had no idea how exhausting it all was until she let it all go.

Everything you have done, are doing, and will do in this life is in your physical body. Do you have any idea how much more joyful, fun, energizing, and amazing everything is when you get to do it all in a body you love??

Many empaths and others sensitive to energy also feel isolated and alone, which is one of the main reasons the Empowered Empaths Circle was created!

In addition to learning concepts and techniques for managing energy, the empowered empaths circle is also a space for group members to give and receive support to one another about topics and questions related to being sensitive to energy.

Although it can feel like a burden, it is a gift to be sensitive to energy! We are here to help bring awareness to the world around us. In this circle, you can learn ways to clear, rebalance, and enjoy your ability to be sensitive to energy.

Sisterhood Circle with Becca

Sisterhood is like rocket fuel for creating the kind of life we want. Surround yourself with other women like you who also want to grow and learn and you've got the powerful recipe for support, connection and change.

Becca will lead this circle the last Thursday of every month (except Jan and Feb where it will be the last Friday). She will guide the conversations around topics such as body image, health, food, healing the body, guilt, shame and tools and strategies to start changing your mindset and self-talk.

Becca's Story:
At a young age, Becca Kunce learned the power and magic of mindfulness. She spent the summers of her formative years immersed in numerous pranayama and meditation courses through The Art of Living. It was here that mindfulness techniques became embedded in her programming. Through these experiences, she found the love and power of her breath and has been turning to it ever since.

Becca comes to teach mindfulness through a background in education. She taught secondary mathematics for five years in New York City. Through her years of teaching, she learned how to masterfully facilitate groups by creating safe and sacred spaces where individuals can take risks and experience tremendous growth. When she experienced her own life-changing transformation through the power of mindfulness, she knew she had to share what she learned outward. So, she left the classroom, followed her inner guides, and began her career as a Confidence Coach. She now works with people who want to feel more confident, better in their bodies, and more powerful. In her sessions with clients, Becca incorporates mindfulness techniques and self-love strategies to help facilitate deep personal transformations.

Becca is no stranger to yo-yo dieting and hating her body. Every day, from the ages of 7 to 27, Becca was on whatever diet or food plan she believed would help her lose weight. Each time she looked in the mirror during those 20 years, she hated what she saw. She obsessed over her weight and learned to tie her self-worth to the number on the scale, the size of her pants, and the number of chins, rolls, or stretch marks she had. Whenever she had to buy bigger clothes or gained weight, she felt disgusting, shameful, and wrong. If her body happened to get smaller, she celebrated and cheered and then went right back to her patterns of self-loathing and strived to be even smaller. None of her many accomplishments in life mattered because they all happened in her body that was so obviously “wrong” and too big.

During her years of dieting, restricting, and self-loathing, she took in an overwhelming amount of information about what was “healthy” for her body. She developed extremely skewed ideas about food and her relationship to her body. It was impossible for her to fully enjoy food because she was either grumpy about eating whatever was “healthy” or she felt guilty because she was eating something “unhealthy.” Yet, she was willing to do anything to fit the mold society has laid out for us so she kept on attempting to change the way she looked.

From a very young age, it was deeply ingrained in her that it was absolutely impossible to love her body unless she looked different. In fact, she was taught she shouldn’t love her body because...how disgusting. So she did whatever it took to lose weight in hopes of feeling confident, good in her body, and dare we say...even sexy.

After two decades of feeling shame and hatred around food and her body, she gave up trying to change her physical body and turned to her mental and emotional ones. She called upon her knowledge and experience of mindfulness to help her remove the blocks she had and shift her thinking. What she uncovered was absolutely life-changing. She was shocked to find that it, in fact, WAS possible to feel confident, sexy, and good in her body, even at her all-time heaviest weight. She learned how to let go of the conditions of love she had for herself and chose to wholly love her body exactly as it was. With this came a starkly different and healthy relationship with food as she reconnected to her body and began listening to what it really wanted. This shift freed up an immense amount of energy, emotions, and headspace. She had no idea how exhausting it all was until she let it all go.

Everything you have done, are doing, and will do in this life is in your physical body. Do you have any idea how much more joyful, fun, energizing, and amazing everything is when you get to do it all in a body you love??

Each month, we will awaken our spiritual gifts and develop a deeper connection to our mind, body and soul. We will laugh and we will learn, so that we can lead our self and our families to happiness.

Many people who are sensitive to energy can become easily overwhelmed without energy-managing techniques. As a result, many unbalanced energy-sensitive individuals struggle socially, physically, emotionally, or mentally. Mismanaged energy can lead to physical illness, relationship problems, or mental health issues.

Many empaths and others sensitive to energy also feel isolated and alone, which is one of the main reasons the Empowered Empaths Circle was created!

In addition to learning concepts and techniques for managing energy, the empowered empaths circle is also a space for group members to give and receive support to one another about topics and questions related to being sensitive to energy.

Although it can feel like a burden, it is a gift to be sensitive to energy! We are here to help bring awareness to the world around us. In this circle, you can learn ways to clear, rebalance, and enjoy your ability to be sensitive to energy.

Becca's Story:
At a young age, Becca Kunce learned the power and magic of mindfulness. She spent the summers of her formative years immersed in numerous pranayama and meditation courses through The Art of Living. Becca comes to teach mindfulness through a background in education. She taught secondary mathematics for five years in New York City. Through her years of teaching, she learned how to masterfully facilitate groups by creating safe and sacred spaces where individuals can take risks and experience tremendous growth. When she experienced her own life-changing transformation through the power of mindfulness, she knew she had to share what she learned outward. So, she left the classroom, followed her inner guides, and began her career as a Confidence Coach. In her sessions with clients, Becca incorporates mindfulness techniques and self-love strategies to help facilitate deep personal transformations.

Becca is no stranger to yo-yo dieting and hating her body. Every day, from the ages of 7 to 27, Becca was on whatever diet or food plan she believed would help her lose weight. Each time she looked in the mirror during those 20 years, she hated what she saw. She obsessed over her weight and learned to tie her self-worth to the number on the scale, the size of her pants, and the number of chins, rolls, or stretch marks she had. Whenever she had to buy bigger clothes or gained weight, she felt disgusting, shameful, and wrong. If her body happened to get smaller, she celebrated and cheered and then went right back to her patterns of self-loathing and strived to be even smaller. None of her many accomplishments in life mattered because they all happened in her body that was so obviously “wrong” and too big.

During her years of dieting, restricting, and self-loathing, she took in an overwhelming amount of information about what was “healthy” for her body. She developed extremely skewed ideas about food and her relationship to her body. It was impossible for her to fully enjoy food because she was either grumpy about eating whatever was “healthy” or she felt guilty because she was eating something “unhealthy.” Yet, she was willing to do anything to fit the mold society has laid out for us so she kept on attempting to change the way she looked.

From a very young age, it was deeply ingrained in her that it was absolutely impossible to love her body unless she looked different. In fact, she was taught she shouldn’t love her body because...how disgusting. So she did whatever it took to lose weight in hopes of feeling confident, good in her body, and dare we say...even sexy.

After two decades of feeling shame and hatred around food and her body, she gave up trying to change her physical body and turned to her mental and emotional ones. She called upon her knowledge and experience of mindfulness to help her remove the blocks she had and shift her thinking. What she uncovered was absolutely life-changing. She was shocked to find that it, in fact, WAS possible to feel confident, sexy, and good in her body, even at her all-time heaviest weight. She learned how to let go of the conditions of love she had for herself and chose to wholly love her body exactly as it was. With this came a starkly different and healthy relationship with food as she reconnected to her body and began listening to what it really wanted. This shift freed up an immense amount of energy, emotions, and headspace. She had no idea how exhausting it all was until she let it all go.

Everything you have done, are doing, and will do in this life is in your physical body. Do you have any idea how much more joyful, fun, energizing, and amazing everything is when you get to do it all in a body you love??

Loving our children IS enough! We will explore parenting from a higher consciousness, staying in the present moment amidst the fears and risks, learning to trust yourself, and finding the joy in all of it.

Each month, we will awaken our spiritual gifts and develop a deeper connection to our mind, body and soul. We will laugh and we will learn, so that we can lead our self and our families to happiness.

Kristi is a story teller and a teacher. We will share stories. We will rewrite stories. We will build a community of parents looking for love and joy within the most sacredness of our calling as leaders of our family.

Join us for these workshops as Nicole sheds some intuitive light on the ever-mysterious state of dreaming and the subconscious mind. From Sigmund Freud to Carl Jung to the spiritual and metaphysical, we will discover the many layers of dream consciousness.

The Empowered Empaths Circle is a healing space for people who identify as empaths or otherwise sensitive to the energy of others & the world around them.

Not sure if you fit this description, but feeling a little overwhelmed about world events, others' problems, or the future? Then this group is definitely for you!

Many people who are sensitive to energy can become easily overwhelmed without energy-managing techniques. As a result, many unbalanced energy-sensitive individuals struggle socially, physically, emotionally, or mentally. Mismanaged energy can lead to physical illness, relationship problems, or mental health issues.

Many empaths and others sensitive to energy also feel isolated and alone, which is one of the main reasons the Empowered Empaths Circle was created!

In addition to learning concepts and techniques for managing energy, the empowered empaths circle is also a space for group members to give and receive support to one another about topics and questions related to being sensitive to energy.

Although it can feel like a burden, it is a gift to be sensitive to energy! We are here to help bring awareness to the world around us. In this circle, you can learn ways to clear, rebalance, and enjoy your ability to be sensitive to energy.

The first new moon of the year occurs on January 16th at 6:17 PM PT at 26° of Capricorn. This is the first new moon in the sea-goat’s sign since its ruler, Saturn, returned to it. This new moon acts like an initiation of sorts. We have lived with Saturn in Capricorn for a moment, but this new moon will make the relationship official. Seal the deal. Sanctify the ceremony.

Level 1 Reiki training will begin at Joy Of Yoga in January! Traditional Usui Reiki 1 classes start January 9 and will be held on Tuesday nights 6-8pm through February 13, 2018.

Join us for this 8-week course where we will learn:

-The background and history of Reiki

-Basic Energy Healing concepts (what is energy? energy healing? auras? chakras? meridians?)

-How Reiki Works (including specific scientific studies)

-How to use Reiki to heal oneself

-How to use Reiki to heal others (including animals)

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a powerful healing technique, that can help to bring about profound physical, emotional, and spiritual changes in a person’s life. Reiki I practitioners learn the basics of Reiki Healing, as well as how to perform self-healing and heal friends/family members and animals. You will learn basics of clearing energy in rooms, food, crystals and other objects. Each Reiki Attunement increases the person’s energy vibration, allowing for more profound healing abilities.

Who can learn Reiki?

-Anyone who wants to practice radical self-care

-Anyone who experiences a lot of stress, anxiety, chronic pain, physical ailments/illness, spiritual blocks, or is around intense/negative energy

-Those who want to help heal animals

What makes this course different than other Reiki Trainings?

*We allow more time to learn the information, practice, and integrate the knowledge and adjust to the new vibration of energy. Many Reiki First Degree courses are taught all at once in one weekend, individually, or in 3 1-hour sessions, leaving minimal time to process the new information, ask questions, or receive guidance and additional feedback. This course is spread out over 8 weeks, and equals a total of 12 hours of training, so that at the end of the training all Reiki I practitioners feel confident in their ability to use Reiki energy to heal themselves and others.

*A strong emphasis is placed on hands-on practice. Students receive hours of experience in class and homework is given to practice between sessions.

*You will receive support in integrating this new vibration of energy. Receiving an attunement can bring up mild physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual shifts, that can at times feel uncomfortable or overwhelming. This is happening because your vibration is increasing, and you are releasing old habits and patterns that no longer resonate with your new vibration. The attunement is given during the 3rd or 4th class, so that students have support built into the class as they adjust to the new energy.

*Additional support from an experienced healer/private practice provider. Sarah integrates additional skills and knowledge from her years as a psychotherapist, running a private practice, and from her experience as a practicing psychic/medium and Reiki Practitioner/Master.

*Additional Resources for Spiritual Development & Reiki Healing. Sarah emphasizes spiritual growth and Reiki healing as a life-long pursuit, and provides many additional handouts, websites, organizations, and other resources for Reiki 1 students to access along the way. Sarah also provides individual feedback and guidance throughout the training program.

Upon completing this training, you will have been trained in Traditional Usui Reiki First Degree (Reiki I), and receive your Reiki I attunement and certificate as a Traditional Usui First Degree Practitioner. Attendance to each session is required to receive Reiki I certificate.

After completion of this course, you will have a strong foundation in Reiki healing. If you would like to pursue a career in Reiki, or you would like to further your self-healing and personal growth with Reiki, you can continue onto Reiki II, to be held later this Fall/Winter!

This event will be hosted by Sarah Buehner, who, in addition to being a Traditional Usui Reiki Master/Teacher is also a practicing psychotherapist and psychic/medium. Sarah pursued her career in Reiki after seeing the profound effects Reiki Healings had in her own life, as well as in the lives of her counseling clients. After learning Reiki, Sarah also experienced how receiving and learning Reiki can lead to profound spiritual growth and strengthen a person’s natural intuition and psychic abilities. Over the last decade, mindfulness has gone from being perceived as a "woo woo" practice to an increasingly mainstream tool espoused in corporations across the globe. Finally now modern neuroscience can support what mindfulness practitioners have known for thousands of years - that mindfulness meditation physically develops our brain's capacity to be more compassionate, calm, happy and focused. This 6-week course is a perfect way to start the new year. As someone in a past session shared, "It's the single most powerful tool I've ever used to implement change in my life."

Bring your child (age 6-12) for Yoga with Estonia every Monday 4-5pm! In this fun and interactive class, your child will learn the basics of yoga and mindfulness. Poses with animal names are paired with some of our favorite children’s music.

After having been asked to teach yoga at an organization she volunteered with- T.A.S.K, a sports and recreation space for children with special needs, she realized teaching yoga was something that brought her and the kids great joy. Estonia is excited to share this playful love of the yoga practice with your child!

This 4 week series will be an introduction to yoga for bigger bodies. Regardless of your body size, shape or flexibility, Yoga will meet you exactly where you are on your journey to happiness and well-being. Yoga creates a positive mind space so you can accept and embrace the beautiful capable body you live in. Learn to move freely with confidence by letting go of the question “How should my body look in this pose?” and start connecting to your inner awareness so you can ask yourself “How does my body feel in this pose?"

In this 4 part series, Bryna and Alison will teach you how to modify basic yoga postures to support your unique body by using the available props provided in any yoga studio. They will teach multiple variations for each posture, showing you how to make yoga safe and comfortable for your specific body type. You will learn how to connect to your body without judgement in a supportive and compassionate community of like bodied people.

We will integrate our movements with breathing exercises to empower you to move with confidence and purpose. Learn to cultivate patience for yourself while strengthening and stretching your muscles at your pace. We will take the time to personally assist each student for maximum comfort and encourage each practitioner to find their own expression in each yoga pose. This is an interactive workshop where we will have conversations about body positivity and self love. You will leave this class with a deeper appreciation of your body and all it can do, basic knowledge of yoga terms, postures, breath work, body awareness, meditation and the ability to make yoga work for you in any yoga class.

Thursday, January 4th from 6:00-7:00 pm, Board Certified Health Coach, April Strelinger aka “Foodie Godmother”, will host an info session outlining her 28 day “New Year Reboot” that will boost your energy, reduce inflammation, and curb those cravings. You will learn how to prepare mentally, physically, and emotionally for a successful REAL FOOD plant-based cleanse. You will be given tools and recipes to navigate this journey as well as a community to keep each other accountable and strong.

The first class will begin on Saturday, January 6 th from 10:30- 11:30pm. Three supplemental and optional classes will be held on the subsequent Saturdays (1/13-1/27) and will cover topics like digestion, how to boost your immune system for the winter, and how to start adding healthy sugars back into your daily life. Most importantly, each week you will be supported by your fellow students and come home with new recipes and new ideas. The final class will celebrate your success and discuss how to incorporate all that’s been learned so that you are well prepared to stay healthy for the rest of the year.

Every student that registers will also be given a 30 minute one-on-one Nutritional Coaching session with April at an agreed upon date.

The practice of Tarot Card reading has been around for generations, and it is said that card reading originates from Ancient Egypt and other early civilizations. Originally, Tarot readings began as a self-exploration tool. In recent decades, the world of cards has expanded and now there are many types of cards, all with a unique energy and purpose! Card reading is an awesome self-care skill, and it can be fun to also give readings to friends and family! Start the new year out by learning this intuitive technique for self-exploration and receiving divine guidance.

In this workshop, we will be covering the following:

-How cards work, The Law of Attraction & Card Readings

-The different kinds of card decks and their uses(Oracle Cards, Tarot Cards, Angel Cards, Ascended Master Cards)

-Setting intentions in a card reading

-Clearing a deck, Opening the energy for a reading, Shuffling, Picking cards

-Each participant will also get a chance to practice giving card readings!

Each participant is encouraged to bring a deck (or a few) of cards. If you don't have a deck of cards, or if you forget your deck, we will have plenty of extra decks to practice with! The secret to a healthy, happy life is to keep your own cup full. To fill it up from the inside in order to really be able to live the life you want.

We are a nation of stressed out people starving for something more in our life beyond the daily grind, beyond what's expected of us. We are craving more and we often gravitate to food, substances and drama to fill this need. Yet inside, we know it is not working.

Our society teaches us to care well for others--- children, partners, parents, homes and jobs. We are taught the value of service to others without much regard to our own Self. Self-care is often thought of as selfish in our culture.

This 4 week program is a chance to stop, pause and tune out all the outside noise so that we can go inside and tap into our own inner wisdom. What you need to feel more connected? We’re going to take a deep dive into self-care and learn how to live SelFULL! You will gain greater understanding of why self care is so important for your mental, physical and spiritual body and why you can no longer NOT care for yourself!

Just thinking about self-care may even bring up feelings of being selfish…AND, be assured living SelFULL is not about being self-centered or abandoning others in our life. Just the opposite really. It’s about knowing yourself deeply and nourishing yourself deeply, so when you do step out in the world, gather with your family, friends, co-workers and community, you are bringing your FULL self and all the wonderfulness that is you!

The bottom line is that you cannot give what you don’t have. If you feel depleted and flat, there is no way you can come to your relationships with your spouse, your kids, your friends or to your work with high energy and joy.
