Yin Yoga Basics

IMG_0680.jpg

Yin yoga is a wonderful antidote to busyness and the perfect compliment for an overextended lifestyle!

In this 4 class series we will explore the basic tenets and concepts of Yin yoga, a quiet practice consisting of long held postures done on the floor to enliven the hips, legs and spine to create greater flexibility and vitality in those areas.

The term yin comes from Taoist (Chinese) yoga and refers to aspects of reality more allowing and receptive to yang qualities which are more expressive and active. The practice helps to enliven parts of the body where prana or chi becomes stagnant and nurtures the meridian and organ systems or the body.

It is sometimes referred to as "needleless acupuncture" because of its ability to bring balance to the energy body similar to a good acupuncture session or massage.

We will have the opportunity to cool and calm (yin) overworked and overheated aspects of ourselves and bring the body into balance. The practice originated in Taoist martial arts and is designed to balance active yang yoga styles and athletics so practictioners can stay fluid and flexible as well as strong!

This practice is open to everyone regardless of experience.

Cost: $15 drop-in (no class cards) or $50 for all four classes
