Ayurveda is India's 5000 year old traditional system of natural medicine and healing. It has timeless and now proven methods of restoring balance and health in body, mind and spirit. It is the sister science to Yoga and translated as 'The Science Of Life'.
Ayurveda is simple wisdom we can use every day to restore optimal physical health and gain mental and spiritual clarity. In this workshop, you will learn some very simple ways to begin incorporating this ancient wisdom into your everyday life today.
Ayurveda is based on the rhythms and cycles of our natural world. And is comprised of the 3 doshas-- Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Remember that doshas are subtle, influential forces. When their actions in our mind-body constitution are balanced, we experience psychological and physical wellness. When they are unbalanced, we may feel uneasy. When they are more obviously unbalanced -- when one or more of the three dosha influences are excessive or deficient -- discernible symptoms or unwellness can be observed and experienced.
As we transition into Spring, Ayurveda calls this "Kapha" Season, we may already notice our bodies changing. In Ayurveda, the qualities (gunas) of Kapha are heavy, slow, cool, slow, soft, dense, stable and sticky. Some of us my be experiencing more congestion or even allergies just a few days into the season.
Regardless of our own particular constitution or dosha (which we will learn in class!), we are effected by our natural world. Ayurveda teaches us how to balance these qualities in simple and logical ways, including foods to eat, that just makes so much sense!
