Experiencing stress across the spectrum is extremely common. Stress of all kinds has a large impact on the body’s physiology and for many, symptoms are held in the body long after stressful events have occurred. Yoga’s focus on turning inward can provide a way to make a connection between the physical and emotional self, both of which are a part of the healing process.
Taught through a trauma-sensitive perspective, this 8 week series will explore mindfulness practices, breath and gentle movement as a way to strengthen a sense of connection to self and cultivate a feeling of safety, control and choice in one’s own body.
Participants will be empowered to listen to their bodies to inform how they engage in each session in order to become reacquainted with their body in a way that feels safe and accessible. Techniques to balance the nervous system and ground in the present moment will be explored as we build inner resilience and community.
Each week we will explore a different theme as it relates to the mind, body and spirit. Depending upon the week’s theme, optional activities such as journaling or art projects will be included.

Trauma Sensitive Mentoring Option
An option for yoga teachers to learn and ask questions about the trauma sensitive methodology as it applies in a traditional yoga setting. Students will learn the basics of the Window of Tolerance and how to apply this knowledge in yoga spaces in the spirit of compassion and choice while also learning the basic principals of Trauma Sensitive Methodology in a scaffolded order.
