Joy started practicing Hatha Yoga in Portland, OR in 1994 while in college. She immediately realized the significance her yoga practice brought to her mind and body, her heart and her life. It wasn't until she became a teacher that she realized THIS was her calling, her dharma, to share the profound benefits of the practice with others. Joy's classes weave intention with pranayama, precision in alignment with quiet mindfulness and subtle body awareness with refinement. Her classes invite us to attune ourselves to the needs of our bodies and adapt our postures to create more ease, and to experience the magnificence of simply being.

Jessie sees yoga as a language for the nervous system and a pathway to embodiment. Her classes offer gentle movement that flows with the breath along with somatic cues to highlight the mind/body connection. In addition to her 200-hour RYT at Joy of Yoga, she recently completed at 40-hour training in Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) with David Emerson and Jenn Turner.
Mindful Movement is a unique blend of yoga, movement, and meditation. Each class offers the opportunity to practice deeper awareness and self-care.
Breath focused yoga and movement build strength and resilience in the body. Mindfulness practices help build focus, calm the mind, and unwind the nervous system.
Sometimes in our yoga practice we strive so hard to “get it right” - mastering our alignment, coordinating our breath, focusing our attention - that we forget to listen to our bodies and how they want to move.
In this practice, we embrace the innate wisdom of the body and the breath to guide our movement, as opposed to the will of the mind. Gentle flows with somatic cues encourage us to reconnect again and again to the present through the body. By softening, rather than striving, we can start to discover authentic and spontaneous motion. Witnessing this movement, witnessing this breath may evolve into mediation and motion.
