Wake up the body with movement. Inspire the mind with a teaching. Sit for ten minutes of silent meditation to create space and hold yourself with kind awareness as you move into your day.
For the first five weeks of the new year, Morning Ritual will commit to starting your days—and 2021—with the wisdom of the yamas and the niyamas. Translated as the restraints and the observances, the yamas and the niyamas are yoga’s code of ethics and are essential principles for carrying yoga off the mat and into your daily life.
Mondays will be dedicated to the yamas (1/4-2/1):
Ahimsa - nonviolence
Satya - truthfulness
Asteya - non-stealing
Brahmacharya - non-excess
Aparigraha - non-greed or possessiveness
Wednesdays, to the niyamas (1/6-2/3):
Saucha - purity
Santosha - contentment
Tapas - self-discipline
Svadhyaya - self-study
Ishavara pranidhana - devotion to higher self/consciousness, trusting/allowing
If you’re looking to wake earlier in the new year or if one of your resolutions is to deepen your yoga practice, join us! And if you’re not a morning person or if you miss one, not to worry. We will send recordings of the class to all who are signed up with an email that discusses the teaching along with sources for further exploration.
