Viniyoga is a style of Hatha yoga that promotes the personalization of yoga practices to suit each individual yogi. From Sanskrit, the prefixes, vi and ni, denote “adaptation” or “appropriate application.” It involves adapting the methods of yoga to ensure they are exactly what the yogi needs in mind, body and spirit.
ViniYoga can be supportive for anyone looking for tools to break up intrusive or anxious thought patterns or behaviors. (Please note, it can be supportive to anyone's current psychotherapy intervention but doesn't replace therapy whatsoever).
Each week of this series, we will explore a ViniYoga sequence that blends the principles of ViniYoga:
Function over form.
Breath and adaptation.
Repetition and stay.
Guiding the student to meet their personal needs
We will start each practice with some repetitive movement like sun salutations then move into more specific simple, ViniYoga movements that focus on function, breathwork and repetition that we can learn on the mat and take back into the world to support us in calming our nervous system.
